MEDIATHÈQUE DEPARTMENT

The Mediathèque Department holds collections of audiovisual works on DVD, VHS and Blu-ray. The collections are divided into Slovak and foreign collections and they serve solely for study purposes. There is one exception – those works over which the SFI exerts producer rights; copies of these works can also be provided to the lay public for non-commercial purposes and for an appropriate fee. The Mediathèque also makes available to the public those audiovisual works acquired under the Act on Compulsory Copies and works supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. In this regard, it collaborates with distribution companies, producers and publishers of DVDs and Blu-ray discs. The Mediathèque also archives DVDs and VHS published by the SFI. It provides for the transcription onto DVD for those interested in Slovak films over which the SFI exerts rights and which have not yet been issued on DVD in accordance with the conditions specified in the Loan Regulations of the SFI’s National Film Archive. A screening room for two persons also forms part of the Mediathèque. It is used for screening films that are not available for loan outside of the SFI premises. These films may be screened only after the person applying to view demonstrates that the screening is for study purposes and also produces a valid SFI library membership card.
