THE FIRST SLOVAK FILM DATABASE at www.sfd.sfu.sk collects information on all Slovak full-length (fiction, documentary, animated) feature films made in Slovakia since 1921 (first full-length film Jánošík, d. J.Siakeľ) till now (new titles have been continually added). For the criteria for films to be included into the database, see the Filmy ( Films ) section. The database does not include films made for television, Czech films, foreign films shot on the territory of Slovakia, or films made by major foreign capital and minor Slovak financial participation. It provides information on about 400 films and the English version of the sites is available as well.
The website consists of two main parts : Database and Homepage .
The homepage brings information on the history of creating the database, a register of readers, discussion forums and popularity charts. Within the database, the website visitor can choose from several options: The Tvorcovia ( Filmmakers ) section offers information on the variety of artists participating on the production of a film –
directors, actors, script-writers and other creators of Slovak films. They are organized in alphabetical order , and by professions. Search is also possible by defined criteria. In the category of Filmy ( Films ) search is possible by title, production year, genre or by date of the first release.
In the section Postavy ( Characters ), specific characters and heroes can be searched by their name . They will be continuously revised and organized in alphabetical order.
Hľadanie ( Search ) is a tool for specifying searching criteria in the whole database. It also offers an advanced search option.
Section Štatistiky ( Statistics ) informs the visitor about access to individual films, number of films, and provides more information about the filmmakers and other related details.
At present, the database provides information on 2,135 filmmakers, 400 films, and 2,685 characters, and offers 344 photographs to view .
