DEPARTMENT OF DOCUMENTATION AND LIBRARY SERVICES
Six expert employees of the department
are in charge of the acquisition, preservation, archiving
and processing of written, photographic, graphic and other
artistic materials. The library collects books,
magazines, screenplays, diploma theses, university textbooks and
other publications.
The Documentation department collects
also additional covering materials about 370 Slovak feature
(since 1921), documentary, and animated films and foreign
feature films.

Archive of materials on Slovak and foreign
filmmakers consists of about 11,300 personal profiles,
materials on Czech feature films and materials on Slovak,
Czech, and foreign film events and festivals.

The PHOTOARCHIVE is an independent fund
of photographs, photonegatives, slides, posters, certificates,
calendars , a variety of film prizes and other graphic
material of archive and documentation character.
The department is in a charge of preserving
of about 600,500 photographs and trailers, 100,000 photonegatives,
slides, and films, about 6,200 posters, 70 calendars and
certificates , and other graphic material on Slovak,
Czech and foreign films and film events and of Slovak, Czech,
and foreign filmmakers. At present, the archive material
is electronically processed. The Photoarchive has started
the digitalization of the most significant collections of
posters, photographs, and photonegatives of Slovak films. Decision
on the option of possible Internet on-line service will have
to be made according to a set of previously defined rules
protecting copyrights.

The LIBRARY is the only
library for film literature in Slovakia . Its funds consist
of 8,700 books, 1,573 screenplays, and a fund of Slovak
film screenplays taken over from Studio Koliba ,
j.s.c. The library also keeps diploma theses, textbooks,
CDs (30) and 1,515 volumes of film magazines .
Books (except for dictionaries and encyclopedias)
can be taken outside (maximum of 5 titles), bound and unbound
magazines are borwed only in the library. The period
for studying of library titles is one month.

The BIBLIOGRAPHY has the task of daily
monitoring of articles from the domestic and foreign
press and building a complete bibliography of articles
from the given year. With the application of the BIBLIS
program the department records information on film events
in Slovakia and abroad, interviews, and portraits of Slovak
and foreign filmmakers from daily newspapers and Slovak
and international magazines subscribed by the SFI Library.
On newspaper clippings, preserved in archive funds, the
basic information is indicated (name of the periodical,
volume, issue, date, page).
