The EDITORIAL DEPARTMENT follows a long-term plan of publishing film literature. It provides complex coverage of book publishing activities; it cooperates in the preparation of Slovak film releases on DVD and coordinates the process of print production (bulletins, posters, leaflets, invitations, and other promotion material). The direct responsibilities of the department thus cover editorial and technical supervision of all printed materials of the SFI. Its secondary activities include PR and media networking.

The Orbis Pictus edition series consists of monographs of significant filmmakers of the history of Slovak cinematography. The traditionally structured monographs are generally built on a synthesis of a biographic view of the artistic and creative development of the filmmaker in the context of the historical period, and his creative work.
The Camera Obscura is an edition series of attractive profiles. It brings a plastic view of the life and work of contemporary figures of Slovak and European cinematography. The edition aspires to attract attention of the wider public by a special selection of portrayed personalities, character of the texts and numerous photographic illustration materials.
The third edition, named Camera Lucida , is devoted to film theory. This field has not been present on the Slovak book market for several years. The books of the series bring a selected production of Slovak and foreign theoretical texts according to a plan of publishing one text of Slovak origin with every four translations of texts of foreign origin.
Studium is a series of texts for the expected audience of readers from among film and humanities students. The published books should be used as study materials with practical fields or as a source of information for all those, dealing with film as part of their major studies.
In its last group of publications, the Editorial Department offers periodical and non-periodical factual publications. In this category belongs the annually published Film Yearbook , bringing a complex review of events in Slovak cinematography. Other publications are released in cooperation with the Documentation Department.
Editorial Board
The Editorial Board is an advisory body to the general manager of the SFI in the field of publishing activities. It has been operating since October 1999 and its members are : prof. PhDr. Miroslav Marcelli, CSc., prof. PhDr. Václav Macek, CSc., doc. PhDr. Jelena Paštéková, CSc., doc. PhDr. Peter Michalovič, CSc., doc. PhDr. Martin Ciel and Mgr. Martin Kaňuch.
